A comprehensive review of the legal aspects of international trade, perhaps the most definitive yet available. Jackson begins with a discussion of the economic and political drivers of trade policy, including competing national policy objectives. He proceeds to discuss the origin, development, and functioning of national and international trade policy institutions, implementation of rules, dispute resolution procedures, tariffs, nontariff barriers, dumping and other unfair trade practices such as subsidies, as well as safeguards and related adjustment-oriented policies. There is a discussion of most-favored-nation policy and national-treatment obligations (and departures therefrom), together with reflections on the role of the developing countries and state-trading practices. Throughout, the discussion is both authoritative and well documented. No bibliography, but extensive footnotes. Highly recommended for college and university libraries, as well as specialized research collections. -I. Walter, New York University
