Noah : the person and the story in history and tradition /

One of the most complete discussions of the Genesis Flood story and Noah and the Ark to appear. Bailey (Duke University) has studied and analyzed material from the Bible, Ancient Near East, medieval, and modern sources, and reports of travelers to Mt. Ararat in search of the Ark. He has also taken time to consider the geographical and geological information that could shed light on the Flood. Bailey has the ability to digest and analyze diverse material related to the many facets of the question and to explain ideas and concepts in a clear and interesting way. Scholars and graduate students will appreciate his bibliography and analysis of sources, and the interested lay person and college student will find the material presented in a readable style. Bailey concludes that there is no solid evidence for the Flood or Noah's Ark in spite of the books, movies, and TV shows to the contrary. He ends his discussion with a description of the meaning of the Flood story in the context of the biblical account. There are five appendixes of technical material, and four indexes (Subject, Cuneiform Literature, Medieval and Ancient Sources, and Modern Authors and Persons Cited), which add appreciably to the value of the book.
