In this guide, Ian Thomson (editor of European Access, a current awareness and bibliographic bulletin on the EC published by Chadwyk-Healey) describes the documentation available from the organizations that make up the European Communities. He emphasizes that his work will build on information in John Jeffries's A Guide to the Official Publications of the European Communities (2nd ed., CH, Mar'82). Thomson presents enough background information for the beginner, but emphasizes developments during the 1980s. Chapters are devoted to each of the principal bodies that make up the EC. For each, Thomson discusses the organization and availability of the publications produced by the body, lists and discusses the main titles, and provides information on bibliographic access. A final chapter, "Other EC Organizations," includes lesser-known but important organizations. Some, like the European University Institute, have publication programs too recent to have been described in Jeffries's guide. A final series of appendixes presents additional useful information such as a list of guides and bibliographic aids published by non-EC organizations and a very useful compilation by topic of "major EC reports, periodicals, series and statistical titles that are currently published at regular' intervals." An index by corporate body, title, and subject completes the volume. A must for every library where there is interest in the EC. -V. W. Hill, University of Wisconsin--Madison
