Summary:Classroom management is a major element of the teaching and learning process, making an impact on achievement and pupil motivation, not to mention the quality of a teacher's working life. Terry Haydn, Visiting Lecturer to the Institute of Education, delivers a lecture on classroom management to an audience of PGCE students. He uses a ten-level scale of working classroom atmosphere as the basis for his lecture, where level 1 indicates no control over the class and level 10 depicts a relaxed and comfortable environment where teaching is an enjoyable experience. As he offers advice and techniques for managing behaviour during lessons, Terry also shares his own teaching experiences by way of illustration.
