Most people are familiar with the use of reggae music as an artistic expression of Rasta culture. Middleton (religion, Texas Christian Univ.) covers that music and exposes readers to many other Rastafarian art forms, among them visual arts (including film) and literature. Each of the six chapters includes at least one interview with a Rasta discussing that particular art form; the interviews are rich with inside perspectives and enhance the book's value. The author extends his exploration to international aspects of Rasta art. Although illustrated, the book could have included more depictions of visual art. In addition, the appendix of songs omits many important songs; e.g., Max Romeo & The Upsetters' War ina Babylon album is not represented. But the book is a solid introduction to the Rastafarian movement in general and its artistic expression specifically. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-division undergraduates and above; professionals; general readers. --Brent D. Singleton, California State University--San Bernardino
