Summary:Illustrator, painter, caricaturist, sculptor, publicist, designer (even before the term existed), Fernando Correia Dias (b. Portugal 1893- Brazil 1935). Alexandre Carlos Teixeira reasserts the work of his grandfather, an artist ahead of his time, who came to Brazil, influenced decisively by the Brazilian native Art Deco, and became involved with the cultural elite where he met poet Cecilia Meireles, whom he later married. After several years of creative and fantastic production, Correia Dias suffered bouts of depression, finally putting an end to his life in 1935, just nine days after his 42 birthday. With his unexpected death, and feeling emotionally betrayed, his wife Cecília Meireles distanced and erased every trace of his presence from their family lives. Although, being an odd admirer of the beautiful, no matter how hurt she was with his extreme gesture, she recognized the genius of Correia Dias. She carefully stored his artistic production in boxes and kept it stored for the next 78 years. The present book documents this important collection and offers new light to an otherwise scarcely studied master artist.
