MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is also a communications system used for interfacing computer-based musical instruments to one another and to personal and main frame computers. Adopted by the industry less than a decade ago, it has changed the recording industry forever. This text covers all important points of using MIDI very well and completely. But unlike other works also covering the subject, such as Steve De Furia and Joe Scacciaferro's MIDI Programmer's Handbook (1989), this book was not written for musicians or casual programmers, but primarily for professional music programmers and technicians--who will find this work very useful. The author's prose is concise and well written but requires attention. The text reads much like a technical bulletin. Recommended to libraries serving computer programming and electronic music students. -D. Hibbard, McLennan Community College
