Summary: | This second volume in the new series Reviews of Oculomotor Research', edited by D.A. Robinson and H. Collewijn, contains in-depth reviews on the neuroanatomy of the oculomotor system. The first chapter serves as an Introduction to the subsequent detailed reviews. Chapters 2-11 are the neuroanatomical reviews: each one considers various neuroanatomical aspects of an individual structure, important in eye movements, for example the extraocular motor nuclei: location, morphology and afferents; the anatomy of the vestibular nuclei; the nucleus prepositus; gaze control through superior colliculus: structure and function. Neuroanatomy of the Oculomotor System gives great impetus to understanding the role of individual structures in the generation of eye movements.
