Provenance: | Copy 2: Binding: bound by Sarah Prideaux in full dark green rich morocco with elegant gilt tooling, consisting on both covers of gently flowing gilt lines headed by stylized fuchsia blossoms and buds, gilt rectilinear compartments with nailhead stippling near the outer edge and again near the center. A central vertical rectangle is bordered by alternating gilt ruling, embossed line, stippling, another embossed line, and finally a gilt ruled inner line. Spine with six compartments, four of which are decorated in gilt with similar floral motif, the second and third with title and author. The date 1899 (year of publication) is tooled in gilt at the bottom. With fabulous marbled endpapers (for which Prideaux was renowned) consisting of muted wavy patterns in light gray, blue and peach. All edges gilt. Her gilt-stamped mark stamped to the rear dentelle: "S.T.P. 1900." This binding is pictured in Prideaux's "A Catalogue of Books Bound by S. T. Prideaux (1895-1900), where she includes this book as one of the 26 illustrations, being Plate 18.
