An unfaithful wife (Frances McDormand), a jealous husband (Dan Hedaya), an in-over-his-head lover (John Getz), and a double-dealing private detective (M. Emmet Walsh) create frisson in this dark-humored neonoir-the auspicious film debut of Joel and Ethan Coen (Fargo; No Country for Old Men). More than three decades later, the stylish blend of gliding camera work, intricate sound design, and crafty dialog has aged like fine wine. Thanks to a 4K restoration and a bounty of extras, this welcome reissue justifies weeding old copies; it's definitely worth upgrading. [See Trailers, LJ 8/16.] © Copyright 2016.
