Westchester broadcaster and writer O'Shaughnessy (It All Comes Back to Me Now) and former New York Governor Mario Cuomo (1932-2015) were close friends for 38 years. This selection of Cuomo's speeches, interviews, letters, conversations, and anecdotes demonstrates O'Shaughnessy's fervent love and admiration for the governor. Rather than a biography, this is an unapologetically one-sided effort to share Cuomo as O'Shaughnessy knew him: a spiritual, compassionate, philosophical, erudite, and unpretentious workaholic; superlative writer and orator; a decent man with a brilliant mind and an exquisite soul. Cuomo claimed that faith, not material possessions, gives meaning to life, and taught that the way to success and happiness is to fulfill our obligation to love and support one another and work together to improve the world. Cuomo is portrayed as a unifier and crusader for justice and equality who strove to eliminate barriers and replace hate with understanding. Republican O'Shaughnessy devotes more space to Cuomo's philosophy and character than to his liberal politics, although he covers Cuomo's rejection of a Supreme Court nomination and a presidential candidacy. VERDICT This -passionate and often gushing tribute to a valued friend will appeal to Cuomo devotees and those who want to know his personal side.-Margaret Kappanadze, Elmira Coll.
