Description
Summary:this book, Prohibition or Control: Making Sense of Debates on Alcohol Policy in Mizoram, Laiu Fachhai, affirms that alcohol is not intrinsically evil; that while the Bible regards excessive drinking and drunkenness as an unbecoming for a Christian, it does not proscribe brewing and drinking wine; and that moderate and occasional drinking should be a matter of individual Christian freedom, like smoking or chewing betel nut (kuva) or taking nicotine deposited water (tuibur) in Mizoram context. Proposing de-demonization of alcohol and decriminalization of drinking, he argues that lifting or retaining the MLTP Act 1995, as well as introducing a new alcohol policy, is the prerogatives of the State. The author, then, encourages the churches in Mizoram to continue to teach their members and adopt biblically informed and acceptable alcohol policy whether or not the State lifts the MLTP Act 1995.
