Summary:Born in 1940, in Reggio Emilia, Fabrizio Plessi studied at the Academia delle Belle Arti in Venice, where he became later Professor of painting. From 1968, Plessi has used the water as the central inspiration for his installations, films, performances, and massive sculptures. He participated in numerous major artistic events, such as the Venice Art Biennal, Arte Fiera in Bologna, the Venice Film Festival, Documenta in Kassel. From the beginning of the 80s, he combines his fascination for conceptual art and Italian "Arte Povera" and his interest in video, experimental media, and site-specific installations to realize monumental installations and video screens. The illusionistic relationship between representation and reality of the liquid element appears amplified by his ability to exploit exhibition spaces and new technologies. Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art will present works by the artist in two exhibitions in Duesseldorf. Both evolve around water as the central element in Plessi's artistic work. "Utopia liquida" is dedicated to Plessis works from the 1970s when he was primarily engaged with action art. The exhibition presents documentary photographies, which were previously exhibited at the Venice Biennial in 1978. In the gallery spaces across the street, the exhibition "Memoria dell'acqua" focusses on the most recent ouevre with a large-scale video installation which is completed by a sound composition by Michael Nyman.
