The well-known German feminist liberation theologian Dorothee Solle has written an accessible, organized, and comprehensive introduction to theology from a liberationist viewpoint, based on commitment to the poor. She divides theology into three schools: orthodox, liberal, and radical, identifying herself as radical (although her radicalism is less extensive than many). There are 15 short chapters, each dealing with a different theological issue. Chapters covering customary theological topics such as creation, sin, grace, and resurrection are complemented by chapters on topics such as feminism, black theology, and peace; but every topic is given a liberationist spin. Each chapter has a brief, helpful bibliography. This is an introduction in the true sense, and one that will prove useful to students interested learning about theology, particularly liberation theology. Unfortunately, Solle unquestioningly repeats Karl Barth's false assertion that all of his theological teachers had given public support to the Kaiser's war plans, and this error in fact may lead the reader to wonder about other claims. Nevertheless, it would be a valuable addition to any academic library. Recommended. -G. E. Paul, Gustavus Adolphus College
