Although a relatively small portion of this volume (about one fourth to one fifth) is actually maps, it will be welcomed in map collections because those maps are bathymetric, giving depth information that can be hard to find on other maps. At the same time, since the intent of the volume is to present ^D["state-of-the-art hydrological, water quality, limnological and fisheries data on 100 lakes^D]" (p. xi), students of hydrology will also find this work of considerable interest. After brief introductory material, Part 1 (about 55 pages) treats characteristics of the lakes; Part 2 is lake descriptions--divided up by basin, then by region, and within region in alphabetical order by lake. An index, bibliography, glossary, and species list at the end of the volume will be much used. For each lake in Part 2 there is extensive text, location (both in range and township and in latitude and longitude), maps, graphs, and references. The text is clearly and pleasantly written; it would be understandable by general readers with an interest in Alberta lakes. There are many color illustrations, both figures and photos. For libraries supporting hydrological or Canadian studies, and also for map collections as an example of how such an atlas should be done.
