An interesting view of teacher development as seen through the eyes of a university professor/qualitative researcher. Miller presents a compelling account of the struggles that she and five teachers encounter as they attempt to become researchers in their classrooms. In analyzing their roles as researchers, the teachers grapple with their roles as teachers confronting the frustrations of educational reform. Miller also grapples with her role and responsibilities as an educational researcher. The frustrations and concerns are couched within the context of specific situations and journal entries. The book illustrates the value and power of journal writing as a means to help teachers and university faculty understand goals, emotions, roles, and phenomena. Miller's subject is particularly timely with the present national reform toward teacher empowerment. An excellent resource for undergraduate and graduate teacher educators, educational researchers interested in qualitative research, and classroom teachers. W. S. Bush University of Kentucky
