Envisioning a sustainable society : learning our way out /

Milbrath argues that as inhabitants of the earth's global village, we are at war with nature and the environment, and must alter our life-styles and attitudes to end the conflict and restore peace. Milbrath (director of the research program in environment and society and professor of political science at SUNY--Buffalo) has written The Washington Lobbyists (1963), Political Participation (1965), The Politics of Environmental Policy (1975), and Environmentalists, Vanguard for a New Society (CH, Mar'85). Envisioning a Sustainable Society is really a handbook to "improve and hasten social learning" about environmental issues and to stimulate a "collective wake up" to ensure that society "take corrective action." As current as a daily newscast, Envisioning is a sobering call for the earth's population to halt pollution now; failure to do so will have dire consequences for "the living earth."
