Description
Summary:Logan develops each chapter in this illustrated study around a feature of public address as best exemplified in the oratory of a particular woman speaker of the era. She considers pertinent historical details--biological, social, political, and cultural facts and events--and provides a context for addressing various characteristics of a text. She analyzes not only speeches but also editorials, essays, and letters when, as in the case of Mary Ann Shadd, no written speeches exist.
