Summary: | Kennedy (English, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) investigates the subject of women's anger in early modern England. She analyzes portrayals of and attitudes toward women's anger in printed texts written or purporting to be written by women or the period. Drawing from recent critical work by historians, literary scholars, philosophers, psychologists, and cultural anthropologists, she compares women's ideas of anger in the early modern period to those of our own time. She also considers how these attitude reflect other attitudes about women in both time periods. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR |
