Covering nearly every aspect of state benefits for the temporarily unemployed, this publication, as its subtitle implies, focuses primarily on unemployment insurance in the public policy context. Its 15 essays by leading economists and public officials address topics ranging from the history of unemployment insurance to how benefits are financed. The essays place particular emphasis on the impact of unemployment insurance on stakeholders and how the federal government influences state provision of benefits. Although this book is not designed for quick reference, readers seeking specific information will appreciate the separation of topics into essays as well as the comprehensive index. Particularly suitable for economic research, it represents the latest available collection of material on this often misunderstood topic. Note: this text should not be considered a how-to guide on collecting unemployment benefits. Upper-division undergraduate through professional collections. D. T. Russell Illinois State University
