Summary: | Brinthaupt (psychology, Middle Tennessee State U.) and Lipka (education, Pittsburg State U.) present 11 papers exploring the nature of teenagers' self-conceptions as a mediator in their experience of the world. Conceptual issues, psychological studies, and case studies of programs are all included. After exploring the nature of self- identity, five of the contributions are devoted to the effect of school environments and peer relationships on self-conception and behavioral problems. Three additional papers look at the effectiveness of youth programs and esteem-enhancement interventions. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR |
