Many of the concepts of knowledge management (KM), such as collaboration and knowledge sharing using technology, have been popularized by the rise of Web 2.0. The editors of this collection set out to provide a view of KM over time. They have succeeded in meeting their goal by providing 15 in-depth chapters covering topics such as KM technology evolution, virtual workplaces and KM, and new KM models; the book also includes a case study of KM in the pharmaceutical industry. The editors and contributors of these chapters are leading researchers in the field and bring a high level of knowledge to their writing. The writing style is similar to what one would find in a peer-reviewed journal. This is an excellent resource for researchers and academicians who need a breadth of information on the subject. The limitation, however, as stated by the editors, is the lack of research on successful implementation of KM concepts within organizations. Therefore, this would not be a primary resource for an organization studying the feasibility of implementing knowledge management. Summing Up: Recommended.
