|a Urologist Dr. Robert John Bacon, Sr. was born on March 9, 1923 in Como, Mississippi. Bacon entered Fisk University in 1941 and in 1944, during World War II, attended Meharry Medical College through the U.S. Army Student Training Program. He received his medical degree in 1947, and served in the Korean War as a First Lieutenant Medic. He completed his internship at Provident Hospital and his residency at Hover G. Philips Hospital, specializing in urology. In 1953, Bacon opened a private practice in Houston, Texas. Bacon served on the directorial board of the State Department of Corrections and as a reviewer for the State Board of Medical Examiners. In 1975, Bacon began his nineteen year tenure on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine. Upon retirement, he worked in an STD clinic in Houston during the HIV epidemic. Bacon passed away on March 19, 2009 at the age of seventy-four.
