|a Radio personality Calvin Douglas Banks, Jr., was born on June 9, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and Friends School in Detroit. In 1976, Banks graduated from Southfield High School, where he had become a disc jockey. Working part time at WDRQ in Detroit, Banks enrolled at the University of Michigan, before being hired by Los Angeles' KDAY in 1977. Banks then signed with Chicago's WBMX, later renamed WVAZ, and boosted the station's morning ratings. Moving to WGCI, Banks worked afternoon drive time and mornings from 1987 to 1994 when Banks signed with ABC Radio Networks to syndicate The Doug Banks Show. The show featured DeDe McGuire and CoCo Budda and Banks as the Urban Flava Creator and was heard by millions across the country. Banks passed away due to complications of diabetes in Miami, Florida on April 11, 2016, at the age of fifty-seven.
