Summary:City administrator Michelle T. Boone was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Gary, Indiana. Boone graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington after receiving her B.A. degree in telecommunications in 1983, and it was there that she later earned her M.P.A. degree in nonprofit management in 1998. In 1983, she began her professional career as a television engineer for Chicago network affiliates including WMAQ-TV, WLS-TV, and WBBM-TV. In 1994, she volunteered with the United States Peace Corps in Chad, Africa. In 1998, Boone served as director for the Gallery 37 program under the City of Chicago's department of cultural affairs. Boone later became the senior program officer of arts and culture at The Joyce Foundation. She then worked as the commissioner of the City of Chicago's department of cultural affairs and special events until 2016, when she was named chief program and civic engagement officer at Navy Pier, Inc.
