Summary:Educator and music director Verna Dorsey Holley was born on April 29, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. Holley attended Dwyer Elementary in 1948 before graduating from Northern High School in 1952. Holley completed her B.A. degree in music education at Wayne State University in 1956 and furthered her education by earning her M.A. degree in music at Michigan State University. Holley became the fine arts director at J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. She retired from the Lansing Public School System but continued to give piano lessons from her home. Holley was selected as pianist and music director of an integrated ensemble of singers from the Lansing, Michigan area known as the Earl Nelson Singers. The ensemble, now under the direction of Holley, is made up of persons from varied occupations and educational levels. Holley's work was associated with the Okemos String Program. She is married to Melvin Holley.
