Summary:Physicist and academic administrator Keith Hunter Jackson was born on September 24, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio. He earned two B.S. degrees, one in physics from Morehouse College and one in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Jackson received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Stanford University in 1979 and 1982, respectively. He joined the staff of Howard University as an assistant professor in 1983. Beginning in 1988, Jackson worked for Rockwell International in Rocketdyne division's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) program. In 1992, he was hired at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as associate director of the Center for X-Ray Optics (CXRO). Jackson served as president of the National Society of Black Physicists from 2001 to 2006. In 2005, he became vice president of research and professor of physics at Florida A&M University. Jackson joined Morgan State University in 2010 as chair of the Department of Physics.
