Summary: | Academic administrator and Tuskegee Airman Roscoe C. Brown, Jr., was born in Washington, D.C., in 1922. After receiving his B.A. degree from Springfield University, he joined the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. Returning home a decorated veteran, he earned his Ph.D. degree from New York University in 1951. Brown became director of the Institute of Afro-American Affairs and a professor of education at New York University in 1950, where he remained for twenty-seven years. From 1977 to 1993, he served as president of Bronx Community College, and he was the director of the Center for Urban Education Policy at the City University of New York. Brown was active with a number of organizations, including more than thirty years of commitment to the Boys & Girls Club. An avid jogger, he completed nine New York marathons. Brown passed away on July 2, 2016 in New York City, at the age of 94. |
