Summary:Disk jockey Richard Pegue was born July 29, 1943 in Chicago. His mother, a beautician, was widowed in 1945 when his father, a policeman, died in the line of duty. Pegue credits with his love for music to a tape recorder his grandmother gave him for his eleventh birthday. By sixteen, he was using it to provide music for dances around the South Side of Chicago. Graduating high school in 1961, Pegue worked two jobs plus attended radio broadcasting classes at Columbia College. In 1968, he became the music director at WVON Radio. When WVON was sold in 1975, Pegue worked at various radio stations in Chicago and Northwest Indiana. In 1987, he facilitated a format change to old favorites called dusties. In 1993, Pegue began appearing every Friday at Taste Entertainment, a Chicago dance club. In 2000, Pegue returned to WVON. Pegue passed away on March 3, 2009 at the age of 66.
