Summary:Lieutenant Governor Joseph B. "Joe" Rogers was born February 19, 1964, growing up in Commerce, Colorado. He worked his way through Colorado State University, majoring in business administration. He earned his law degree at Arizona State University. After law school, Rogers worked for the Colorado Bar Association's Lend-A-Lawyer Program. He served as Staff Counsel for U.S. Senator Hank Brown, advising on a wide range of issues related to business. Later, in private practice, he served as General Counsel, Denver Parents Association, a conservative nonprofit public policy group advocating school vouchers. In 1996, Rogers ran for Congress. Rogers, a black Republican, surprised skeptics by garnering 42 percent of the vote, including 50 percent of the African American vote. Encouraged, Rogers won the race for Lieutenant Governor in 1998. In 1999, he was sworn in as the youngest lieutenant governor in Colorado's history. Rogers passed away on March 3, 2013, at the age of 49.
