Summary:Museum director and television station general manager Marita Rivero was born November 25, 1943 in Richmond, VA. She grew up on the campus of Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where her parents were professors. She earned her B.S. degree in psychology in 1964 from Tufts University. In 1970, Rivero became a producer of public affairs television at WGBH, an NPR member station in Boston, Massachusetts. She moved to Washington D.C. to work as a communications consultant, and became general manager of WPFW Pacifica radio. Rivero returned to Boston as WGBH Radio's general manager in 1988. After serving as executive-in-charge of the Peabody Award-winning documentary series, Africans in America: America's Journey Through Slavery (1998), and This Far By Faith (2003), she was promoted to general manager of WGBH, in charge of radio and television. Rivero left WGBH in 2013 and became executive director of the Museum of African American History, Boston and Nantucket, in 2015.
