Summary:Television news anchor Diann Burns was born September 29, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her B. A. degree in politics and mass communications from Cleveland State University; her master's degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. She began her career as a general assignment print reporter with the Cleveland Plain Dealer. She was also sports editor, photographer and reporter at the black-owned Cleveland Call and Post. Her first job as broadcast reporter was at WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio. Later, she worked at the Independent Network News of New York. In 1994, Burns was named co-anchor of the nightly news at the ABC Chicago affiliate WLS-7, becoming the first African American woman to occupy this position in Chicago. Burns supported several charitable organizations, including the Northern Illinois Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society; and the Support Group, an organization that assists high school students with tutorial assistance and social services.
