Summary:Dentist Dr. Ebenezer Bush was born March 20, 1920, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Alabama; and earned his D.D.S. from Howard University School of Dentistry in 1952. He served in the Army for three years, including a tour in the Pacific Theater. In 1954, he became the first African American to establish a dental practice in Long Beach, California. He also opened a second practice in Compton, California for low-income residents. He was a pioneer in dental implant surgery. Bush was active with a number of professional organizations in the community, including the Long Beach City College Foundation. He received numerous awards for his work, including a key to the city of Long Beach. He was also cited as a distinguished alumnus by Tuskegee Institute; and Howard University. Bush was a life member of the American Dental Association. He passed away on August 20, 2016 at age 96.
