Summary:Historian and nonprofit chief executive Reverend Dr. Calvin Morris was born on March 16, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Morris graduated with honors in 1963 with his B.A. degree in history from Lincoln University. At Boston University, he earned his M.A. degree in 1964, and in 1967, his S.B.T. degree in theology. He was ordained in the United Methodist Church. In 1967, Morris was associate director and national coordinator of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Operation Breadbasket. he became executive director of Atlanta's Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in 1973. From 1976 to 1992, Morris was associate professor of pastoral theology at Howard University, and he received his Ph.D. degree in American history from Boston University in 1982. In 1992, Morris was academic dean at Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. Chicago's Community Renewal Society hired Morris as executive director in 1998 where he presided over publications and a staff of forty-seven.
