|a Singer and recording artist Jean Carne was born as Sean Jean Parker on March 15, 1947, in Columbus, Georgia. She attended Morris Brown College and planned to attend Juilliard School in New York. But those plans were interrupted when she married musician Doug Carne. Jean joined her husband's jazz fusion band and released three albums. Her voice, said to cover a five-octave range, attracted the attention of Earth, Wind and Fire. She sang back up on the band's first two releases. She also toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Carne recorded for several record labels, including Motownand Buddah, putting out a string of popular songs. In 1986, Carne joined Omni Records, which produced her first number-one hit, "Closer Than Close." She continued to record and released a greatest hits album. She toured nationally and internationally and worked with well-known artists such as Phyllis Hyman, Dizzy Gillespie and The Temptations.
