|a Blues musician Edward Harrington a.k.a. Eddie Clearwater, was born January 10, 1935, in Macon, Mississippi. Clearwater was raised by his Cherokee grandmother and taught himself how to play guitar, left-handed and upside down. As a teenager, Clearwater performed with the gospel group, Five Blind Boys of Alabama. In 1950, he moved to Chicago, first working as a dishwasher and spending evenings in blues clubs, listening to such legends as Muddy Waters and Sunnyland Slim. By 1953, Clearwater landed his own club gigs in Chicago. His made his first recording, "Hill Billy Blues" in 1958 under the name Clear Waters, a play on blues master Muddy Waters. He continued to record and perform throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He made his first European tour in the mid-70's with Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Jimmy Johnson. In 2004, he was nominated for a Grammy Award with for his collaboration on Rock 'n' Roll City.
