Summary:Foundation CEO Christopher R. Cloud was born on April 15, 1969, in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Hartford, Connecticut. Cloud earned his B.A. degree in political science from Howard University in 1991. His began his career as an associate for the Council on Foundations. Later, he was a legislative aide for Connecticut State Senator Eric Coleman. Cloud wrote the legislation that created the Connecticut African-American Affairs Commission. In 1997, Cloud was appointed project manager for AMISTAD America in New Haven, Connecticut. At AMISTAD, Cloud conceived and designed Freedom Schooner Amistad, a human rights education project that re-creates the Spanish ship, Amistad, made famous by the 1839 slave revolt. Cloud was promoted to executive director of AMISTAD America in 1999, and served as the company's president and chief executive officer. In 2004, he received the Tourism Ambassador of the Year Award from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.
