Summary: | Federal judge and television host Judge Greg Mathis was born April 5, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. Mathis attended Peterson Seventh Day Adventist School and terrorized Wayne Memorial High School. Mathis earned his G.E.D. in 1977. He later received a B.S. degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1982 and a J.D. degree from University of Detroit Law School in 1987. In 1983, Mathis joined the staff of Councilman Clyde Cleveland. In 1986, Mathis and his wife, Linda, formed Young Adults Asserting Themselves (YAAT). In 1987, Mathis was chosen to head Reverend Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign in Michigan. From 1986 to 1993, Mathis managed Detroit's Neighborhood City Halls for late Mayor Coleman A. Young. In 1995, Mathis was elected to Michigan's 36th district court. In 1998, Warner Brothers launched The Judge Mathis Show, a popular court-TV program. Mathis was chairman of the Rainbow PUSH-Excel board, a lifetime member of the NAACP.
