Summary:State government official Gerald Lamb was born on August 25, 1924 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. After high school, Lamb served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. Following his honorable discharge, he studied dental technology. After moving to Waterbury, Connecticut, Lamb became general manager of Waterbury Dental Laboratories and was involved in the community. After election as an alderman, Lamb became president pro tempore of the board and acting mayor of Waterbury in 1959. In 1962, Lamb made history when elected treasurer of the State of Connecticut where he remained until 1970. He was the first African American to be elected to the position of state treasurer in the United States. He served as Connecticut's commissioner of banking, and as a senior vice-president at Connecticut Bank & Trust where he was responsible for government and community relations. Lamb retired in 1989. Lamb passed away on March 24, 2014 at age 89.
