Summary:Nonprofit chief executive and mayor Marc Haydel Morial was born on January 3, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Morial attended Jesuit high school receiving his diploma in 1976. He earned his B.A. degree in economics and African American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. He received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1983. After graduating, Morial worked in private practice at the law firm of Adams and Reese. Morial worked on the Supreme Court case Chisom v. Roemer, establishing that the Voting Rights Act be applied to election judges leading to the election of the first African American judge in Louisiana. He served two years in the Louisiana State Senate, and was elected to two terms as mayor of New Orleans, serving from 1994 to 2002. Morial served as president of the United States Conference of Mayors. In 2003, Morial was appointed president and CEO of the National Urban League.
