In the late 1960's, Shack worked for the New Jersey State Department of Education before moving to Michigan, where she worked in the Department of Vocational Education. In 1979, Shack became national president of The GirlFriends, Inc., and in 1981, she was named president of the Highland Park Community College in Highland Park, Michigan. Shack passed away August 16, 2010, at age 83.
