Summary:Chemist and professor Alvin P. Kennedy was born on June 1, 1955 in Lansing, Michigan. Kennedy earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from Grambling State University in 1978. He graduated with his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from University of California, Berkeley in 1985. Upon graduating, Kennedy was hired at Dow Chemical Company as a senior research chemist in central research and was promoted to a project leader in 1989. In 1991, he joined the faculty at North Carolina A&T State University as assistant professor of chemistry. He was promoted to associate professor in 1996. In 1997, he received a NASA research fellowship at the Marshall Space Flight Center. In 2000, he joined the faculty at Morgan State University as associate professor and chair of the chemistry department becoming a tenured professor in 2002. Kennedy obtained three polymer-related patents and several awards including the "Henry McBay Outstanding Teacher of the Year.".
