| Summary: | Federal government appointee Lorraine C. Miller was born on May 6, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas. Miller enrolled in Jarvis Christian College directly following graduation from high school. She then attended the University of North Texas where she graduated in 1975 with her B.A. degree in political science. She initially worked as a high school government teacher in Fort Worth, but decided to pursue a political career in Washington, D.C. Miller later attended Georgetown University and graduated with her executive M.B.A degree. She went on to work for the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Communications Commission and for various House of Representative leaders until 2007 when she was named clerk of the House of Representatives. Miller would become the first African American to both hold that seat and to serve as an officer of the United States House of Representatives. She held the seat of clerk until 2011.
