Summary:Broadcast journalist Derek McGinty was born on August 17, 1959 in Washington, D.C. He received his B.A. degree in journalism from American University in 1981. From 1984 to 1991, McGinty worked as anchor/reporter for WHUR-FM, where he co-hosted "The Daily Drum". From 1991 to 1998, he hosted WAMU's "The Derek McGinty Show" which received the Gold Award for Public Affairs Programming from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting in 1994. He worked as a correspondent for the PBS series, "State of the Union". McGinty was hired as a correspondent on the CBS News program "Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel" in 1998. He worked as a correspondent for "Real Sports" on HBO from 1999 to 2003 and as reporter and anchor for WJLA from 1999 to 2001. He also co-anchored two ABC shows from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, McGinty joined WUSA where he was weeknight co-anchor for WUSA 9 News.
