Summary:Journalist and politician Steen Miles was born on August 20, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana. She began her career in South Bend where she was the first African American female reporter and talk show host. She went on to work for fifteen years as a managing editor and reporter/anchor at WXIA-TV where she retired in 1999. In 2001, Miles was hired as the chief media relations officer for the MARTA, the transit agency in Atlanta. Miles also served as a talk show host for the Faith in the City Forum. From 2005 to 2007, she served as a state senator for Georgia's District 43. In 2008, she became a contributing columnist to The Champion newspaper in Decatur, Georgia. She was also a 2014 candidate for the U.S. Senate. Miles received three Emmy Awards and was invited twice to the White House. Her memoir, Teeny: Newslady In Training, was published in 2007.
