Summary: | Lawyer George Keith Martin was born on September 24, 1953 in Fort Lee, Virginia. Martin earned his B.A. degree in speech communications from the University of Virginia in 1975 and his J.D. degree from the Howard University School of Law in 1978. Martin was hired as a litigation associate at Hirschler, Fleischer, Weinberg, Cox & Allen. In 1984, he became a partner at the law firm of Wilder, Gregory & Martin, and in 1990, he joined McGuireWoods L.L.P. as a partner. He was appointed to the board of visitors at James Madison University in 1999, and at Regent University School of Law in 2002. In 2011, he was appointed as a member of University of Virginia's board of visitors and was elected the first African American Rector of the University of Virginia's board of visitors. Martin was the recipient of multiple awards including the Raven Award from the University of Virginia.
