Summary:Public health consultant Dr. Arese Ukpoma Carrington was born July 16, 1958. Carrington earned her M.D. degree in 1980, from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; and her MPH from Harvard University School of Public Health in 2000. She was the commencement orator for all of Harvard's graduate schools. Before leaving Nigeria, she worked for the Nigerian Airports Authority. She moved to the U. S. in 1995, after marrying U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Walter C. Carrington. She was associate director for Harvard's AIDS Prevention Initiative Nigeria (APIN). She wwwwii the board of the Pan African Health Foundation. Carrington was also on the board of the United Nations Association of Greater Boston; the Visiting Committee for the arts of Asia, Oceania; and the Africa of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Trustees Advisory Board of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In 2014, she received the Newton Human Rights Lifetime Achievement award.
