Summary: | Publisher Earl Graves was born on January 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, growing up in a household of strong discipline and high expectations. He became an Army Green Beret leaving the rank of captain. Graves received his B.S. degree in economics from Morgan State University in 1958. Following a brief career as a real estate agent, Graves spent three years working with Senator Robert F. Kennedy. In the early 1970s, Graves decided to start a newsletter which would be the precursor to Black Enterprise magazine.
