| Summary: | Nonprofit executive Carole Henderson Tyson was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1942, to parents who were pioneers in the international travel industry. Earning her B.A. degree from Tufts University in 1964, her M.A. degree from Howard University in 1968, and her Ph.D. degree from Harvard University in 1970, Tyson was involved in international affairs most of her life. After traveling to Tanzania in 1972, she returned to the United States to work for the United States Agency for International Development where she directed economic aid plans for Senegal and Lesotho. After working with USAID, Tyson was appointed vice president for international affairs at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. She then worked for the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program at Howard University, and was president and CEO of Henderson's Global Voices, which supplied speakers with expertise on Africa, the Caribbean and the Middle East to corporations, academia and other organizations.
