Summary:Entrepreneur Marcella Boyd-Cox was born in 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Lutheran East High School and completed her undergraduate coursework at Baldwin-Wallace College and Cleveland State University in Cleveland. She joined the family business, E. F. Boyd and Son, Inc. Funeral Homes. Her grandfather founded the business early in the twentieth century. In 1988, after becoming a licensed funeral director, Cox became vice president and manager for family's three funeral homes. Boyd-Cox was active in the civic affairs of Cleveland. She was a member of the Coalition of 100 Black Women. She supported initiatives to combat Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). She was also a member of the Cleveland Chapter of Girlfriends, Inc.; the National Council of Negro Women; and the National Funeral Directors Association. She was also a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association; and the Advisory Board of the Love Center Interdenominational Church.
